Learning Through Movement: Counting by 10s and 5s

I believe in making learning both engaging and effective. One way we do this is by incorporating movement into our lessons. Movement not only makes learning fun but also helps students form stronger connections to the material.

In this video, I’ll demonstrate how we use movement to practice counting by 10s and 5s. This activity supports number sense, builds patterns, and strengthens memory through physical engagement.

Learning Pronouns

Today, I’m excited to share a fun way we’re practicing pronouns with our students! By using a simple pointing activity, students can physically engage with pronouns like I, you, them, and we. This activity helps reinforce the idea of talking about ourselves and others, making abstract concepts more concrete. It’s also a great way for students to feel confident using pronouns in their everyday conversations.
Below is a video showing an example of how we would practice this:

After the movement activity, I explain:
  • Using "I" or "me" when speaking or writing refers to themselves. Example: "I rode the bus to school today."
  • Saying "you" refers to someone they are talking to or addressing. Example: "You did a wonderful job coloring that picture."
  • A group of people, 2 or more that does not include themselves can be referred to as "them" or "they." Example: "They ran down the sidewalk."
  • For a group of people that includes yourself, we refer to that as "we", "us", or "our". Example: "We went out to recess" or "Our class rocks!"
